Nicola Peltz Ordered to Appear in Court Over Pet Dog's Death

Actress and filmmaker Nicola Peltz has been summoned to appear before a court deposition, scheduled for October 30, in connection with the tragic death of her pet Chihuahua, Nala. The legal proceedings stem from a lawsuit filed against the dog grooming service, HoundSpa, in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Westchester County.

The lawsuit, asserted by Peltz, alleges that her dog succumbed to "intentional and malicious abuse" at the hands of the groomer, Jony Ceballos, during a mobile grooming session on June 15, 2024. Inquisitive Touch Weekly, an entertainment magazine, obtained court documents outlining the case, revealing a Judge's instruction for Peltz's appearance.

According to these documents, Nala was a healthy dog before the grooming appointment but returned home in severe distress, exhibiting symptoms such as heavy breathing, wheezing, and a rapid heart rate. Veterinary records show she had fluid in her lungs, neurological problems, and a rapid heart rate prior to her passing.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that Peltz's family had previously requested to avoid Ceballos due to historical issues with him, but he was dispatched to groom five of their dogs without Peltz's knowledge on that day. The lawsuit also specifies that Peltz will be required to authorize the release of Nala's medical records, including the necropsy report, as part of the court proceedings.

HoundSpa, owner Deborah Gittleman, and Ceballos all deny any wrongdoing in connection with the incident. Ceballos' legal team has even suggested potential comparative negligence on the part of Nicola Peltz. Peltz has publicly stated that she intends to donate any damages awarded from the lawsuit to a dog rescue charity.

Brooklyn Beckham, Peltz's husband and the estranged son of pop icon David Beckham, has publicly supported his wife during the legal proceedings.

Although the exact details of what transpired during the grooming session are still being disputed, the case is progressing with the approaching court-ordered deposition and document disclosures. No final resolution or judgment has been reported yet.
