In the upcoming year, the typical contribution rate for statutory health insurance (SHI) is predicted to increase by 0.1 percentage points, reaching 16.3%. This increase is necessary to ensure that the health insurance funds can manage their expenditures, as advised by official estimators. Surprisingly, numerous policyholders in Bavaria may not notice this rise or even see a reduction in their contributions, thanks to announcements from prominent health insurance funds like AOK Bavaria and BKK Faber-Castell.

The largest health insurance fund in Bavaria, AOK, has promised to keep its contribution rate stable at 16.18%, pending approval from its administrative board on December 21. Meanwhile, the financial situation in nationwide health insurance funds, which have a higher member base in Bavaria, remains favorable.

The Techniker Krankenkasse, the largest nationwide health insurance fund, has also assured its members that the contribution rate will remain unchanged at 15.8%. DAK Gesundheit, the third-largest health insurance fund, has no plans to adjust its contribution rate, which remains at 16.3%. The second-largest nationwide health insurance fund, Barmer, will make its decision regarding contribution rates on December 20.

Some smaller health insurance funds, with a significant membership in Bavaria, are even lowering their contribution rates. BKK Faber-Castell, restricted to Bavaria-based insured individuals, will reduce its rate by 0.25 percentage points to 15.7%. Audi BKK is also making this improvement by lowering the rate by 0.25 percentage points to 15.6%.

Smaller health insurance funds focusing on Bavaria also maintain their contribution rates. Mobil Krankenkasse charges a rate of 16.09%, while BKK mhplus leaves its rate unchanged at 16.18%.

However, certain health insurance funds with a focus on Bavaria are becoming more expensive. Siemens Betriebskrankenkasse is raising its contribution rate by 0.2 percentage points to 16.3%, aligning with the projected average contribution rate for SHI. The Siemens Betriebskrankenkasse explains that this decision is in line with the general requirement for statutory health insurance to cover its expenses. IKK Classic, which specializes primarily in trades, is also raising its contribution rate by 0.1 percentage points to 16.3%, which coincides with the average contribution rate across SHI.
