Württemberg Yacht Club Extends Lead in 2. Bundesliga Sailing Series
The Württemberg Yacht Club (WYC) has extended its lead in the 2. Bundesliga Sailing Series following a successful performance at the third season event on the Wannsee.
The WYC team, under the guidance of tactician and team manager Carlo Schnetz, demonstrated a consistent and solid performance from Friday to Sunday. Despite initial difficulties on the first day, the team quickly found its rhythm and managed to secure a fourth place on the final day.
The second day of the regatta was challenging, with only 2-5 knots of wind and 40-degree wind shifts, resulting in only one race being started. Nevertheless, the WYC crew finished in fourth place in that race.
The final day brought perfect sailing conditions with 7-18 knots of wind. The WYC team performed impressively, securing positions one, one, two, and three in four races. These strong results significantly increased their lead in the annual ranking from one to eight points.
Jakob Gruber, trimmer of the WYC team, commented that the conditions on the second day were more like swimming pool weather than sailing wind. However, finding rhythm in the freshening wind was crucial to establish the team in the top half on the first day. WYC president Oswald Freivogel emphasized the team's consistent and solid performance on the tricky waters.
Team manager Schnetz added that consistency is key in this league and that they remain on course for promotion. Despite narrowly missing the podium on the final day, the WYC team remained within reach until the last downwind leg.
The next event in the 2. Bundesliga Sailing Series takes place from September 19 to 21 in Berlin, hosted by the Potsdam Yacht Club. Despite the challenging and fluctuating conditions on the notoriously tricky Berlin waters, the WYC team managed to secure a good position in the regatta, with only two points separating the second from the tenth place on the final day.
