Chillin' in Tomsk: River Ice Break Progresses

Whoa, just yesterday, the ice break on the Ob River in Tomsk Oblast moved a whopping 54 kilometers! The front edge of this icy beast is currently hanging out near the village of Prokhorino in the Alexandrovsky district. In about 250 kilometers, it'll be high-tailing it out of the region, according to the press service of the local administration.

Previously, they reported that the ice break on the Ob River in Tomsk Oblast kicked off on April 5 of this year. By April 24, the ice break's head had navigated its way to the village of Vertikos in the Kargasok District, covering a distance of 71 kilometers in a single day.

Here's the lowdown: "The ice break on the Ob River has advanced 54 kilometers in a day. The front of the ice break is now in the village of Prokhorino, Alexandrovsky district; there are still 250 kilometers to go before it reaches the border with the Hanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. We're seeing a drop in water levels in the Krivoshinsky and Molchanovsky districts; road flooding remains," the statement noted.

Back in the day, they also reported seven episodes of road flooding in the Teuguldeksky, Chayinsky, and Krivoshinsky districts on April 24.

  • The latest update from the local administration indicates that the ice break on the Ob River in Tomsk Oblast, currently positioned at Prokhorino in the Alexandrovsky district, has advanced a strong 54 kilometers in just one day.
  • The rapid progress of the ice break has been attributed to the section of the river it traverses, with environmental-science experts speculating that the colder weather could further slow its movement towards the Hanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
