He serves as a coach for the youth division of the football club based in Omegna.
In an ongoing effort, search teams were deployed on Monday to locate Luca Gerbino, a 60-year-old resident of Cavallirio and football enthusiast, who has been missing since Sunday evening. Gerbino, a collaborator with Omegna Calcio’s youth sector since October 2024, set out for a hike in Monte Bo, a scenic yet challenging area in Biella.
According to a resident of Piedicavallo, who is a friend of Gerbino, and a separate individual from Borgosesia, the football coach has not been seen or heard from since he embarked on his hike. The missing man’s Fiat Panda was discovered in Montesinaro, and a search was initiated after he stopped providing updates, as he reportedly has no close relatives.
Despite attempts to locate Gerbino’s cell phone, efforts have been unsuccessful, as it remains unreachable. Search and rescue operations have involved the use of drones and search dogs, but as of yesterday, there has been no sign of Gerbino. The vehicle was opened to allow the dogs to sniff for any traces before heading into the woods.
Since Gerbino collaborates with the youth sector of Omegna Calcio, working on the Scuola Project and managing their social media, the football club has shown strong community support in the search. Domenico Sinacori, head of the youth sector at Omegna, expressed concerns, as Gerbino doesn’t coach any of their teams regularly.
Although no recent details were provided, Luca Gerbino has collaborated with other youth sectors in Novara, Valsesia, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, and Lombardy, including some women’s football teams, in the past. The community has come together, with volunteers and well-wishers offering support to rescue teams and Gerbino’s family.
As the search for Gerbino continues, all parties remain hopeful and focused on his safe return. The public is encouraged to share reliable updates from official sources on social media, volunteer through organized channels, and respect the privacy of the family and the instructions from rescue teams.
- Despite Gerbino's involvement with multiple European football leagues, such as those in Novara, Valsesia, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Lombardy, and even some women's teams, the average probability of finding him in a remote location like Monte Bo seems to increase with each passing day.
- In the world of European leagues like Serie A, football coaches like Gerbino often stay connected with their clubs and colleagues, but his sudden disappearance while on a hike in Biella has left an average silence in the communications that usually fill their conversation threads.
