He is the "Heintje" Simons representative for the 70th session.
Heintje, the Dutch singer who rose to fame at the tender age of 12 with his heartwarming rendition of "Mama" on German television's "Der Goldene Schuß" in 1967, is turning 70 this year. Born on this very day, Heintje's career began in a humble bar owned by his parents, where he would captivate guests with his bell-clear soprano and high C, a voice that melted many mother hearts.
Heintje's parents, who worked in the coal mines of Limburg, opened the bar as an attempt to keep the family afloat financially. It was here that Heintje would stand next to the jukebox and sing "Mama" repeatedly, delighting the guests and setting the stage for his successful singing career.
Heintje's success continued with songs like "Ich bau' dir ein Schloß" and "Heidschi Bumbeidschi," which reached the charts and cemented his status as a child star. He is known for his mix of cheekiness and sentimentality, qualities that have endeared him to fans for over five decades.
In recent years, Heintje has faced difficulties with his hearing, which has affected his ability to perform. He can hear with hearing aids, but he is missing the mid-tones, a problematic issue for him on stage and in the studio. Despite these challenges, he has continued to tour and even ventured as far as China.
Heintje has cancelled all concerts, choosing to return to performing only when he is one hundred percent. He expresses gratitude for his success and enjoys looking back on his career with humility. He has released new CDs recently, including an album "Heintje and I" which was a big success in Germany.
Technology allows him to sing duets with the younger Heintje on his albums. He lives with his family on an estate with many horses in the tri-border area. Heintje will celebrate his 70th birthday with his family but no grand party is planned. Towards the end of August, he might sing again, possibly his hit song "Mama," at a farm party.
Heintje is hopeful for technological advancements in hearing aid technology and artificial intelligence. Despite his hearing issues, he remains optimistic about his future and the possibilities that technology holds for him.
