Gérard Depardieu in the Hot Seat Once More
At 74, the renowned French actor, Gérard Depardieu, is once again under scrutiny. Following a string of accusations earlier this year, a new claim has surfaced against him. In April, 13 women accused Depardieu of sexual misconduct, with no charges filed. Now, the actress Hélène Darras has brought forward allegations of sexual harassment dating back to 2007 during the filming of "Disco."
The Paris public prosecutor's office is currently pondering whether to further examine the case, considering the statute of limitations. No comments have been made by Depardieu's legal team regarding the latest allegations.
Time and Reflection
Darras, who initially testified against Depardieu, revealed to the AFP news agency, "It took me a year to go from testifying to reporting. [...] Going to a police station and telling a policeman that you have been touched in your private parts is not easy. It takes time to think about it." Her motivation now is to "counter Depardieu's defenders who play down our accusations."
April 2023 Allegations
In April 2023, Depardieu was accused by thirteen women of inappropriate behavior and sexually suggestive comments during the making of eleven films spanning two decades. These alleged incidents frequently occurred in public and on film sets. Although no legal action was taken, the public prosecutor's office had earlier opened an investigation due to claims of rape and sexual assault made against Depardieu in 2018.
As time goes on, additional allegations continue to surface against the actor.
