Haydn's 'The Creation' Dazzles in Füssen with Stellar Soloists and Orchestra

A spectacular performance of Joseph Haydn's 'The Creation' took place at St. Mang Church in Füssen. The event, directed by Helene von Rechenberg, featured a talented ensemble of soloists and the Young Chamber Orchestra of Eastern Bavaria, along with the St. Mang Church Choir. The evening was a 'special musical event', marked by outstanding vocal performances and skilful orchestration.

Richard Lesch shone as the tenor in the role of the archangel Uriel, Alban Lenzen captivated as Raphael, and Eva Maria Hartmann's radiant soprano as Gabriel brought the celestial trio to life. The conductor, whose name was not found in search results, led the young chamber orchestra with finesse, bringing out the best in Haydn's masterpiece.

The performance began with a chaotic portrayal of the void, leading to a blinding Fortissimo flash of light as 'And there was light'. The orchestra highlighted programmatic aspects with tonal painting effects, such as the rising sun and creation of animals. The choral parts were sung precisely and with lively expression, effectively depicting the transition from darkness to liberation. The interaction between the choir and the duet of Adam and Eve was particularly well-rehearsed, ending in a soft pianissimo. The trio of soloists demonstrated sovereign vocal artistry in the accompanying recitatives and arias.

The performance ended with a powerful final chorus, leaving the audience spellbound. The standing ovation that followed was a testament to the exceptional talent on display. Haydn's unique masterpiece, with its optimistic themes and grand choral passages, was brought to life in a way that will be remembered by all who attended.
