Hattiesburg’s homeless shelters plead for winter aid amid rising need

Hattiesburg's homeless shelters, including the Fieldhouse for the Homeless and the Loftin House, are appealing for donations and volunteers to support their vital services during the cold weather. The shelters provide 24-hour refuge and essential resources to those in need.

Currently, the shelters can accommodate around 60 people at a time, offering a warm and safe space during the cold months. Donations of warm clothes, blankets, shoes, food, and hygiene products are urgently needed. These can be dropped off at the Fieldhouse for the Homeless, located at 5712 U.S. 49 North in Hattiesburg. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Volunteers are crucial in supporting these shelters. Their time and efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of those seeking refuge. Sheila West, a resident at the Loftin House, expressed her gratitude for the shelter's provision of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and assistance in finding new accommodations.

The Fieldhouse for the Homeless and the Loftin House are beacons of hope for Hattiesburg's homeless community. With the public's generous donations and volunteer support, these shelters can continue to provide essential aid and comfort to those in need during the cold weather.
