Harris Faced with Questions Over Failing to Speak Up on Biden's Health Matters, as Per Shapiro's Claims
In an interview with Stephen A. Smith, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has expressed his concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris' decision not to publicly address President Joe Biden's fitness to serve during the 2020 election campaign. The interview was released on Thursday.
Governor Shapiro stated that he had privately expressed his concerns to President Biden and his team, but Vice President Harris, who was in a unique position to observe the President closely, never spoke out publicly about his fitness.
Vice President Harris, in her upcoming book, admits that it was a mistake to leave the decision about Biden's reelection solely to him and his wife, Jill. She believes that the decision should not have been a personal one, but rather one that considered the high stakes of the election.
Governor Shapiro also suggested that Biden's team may not have provided him with an accurate picture of his projected performance in Pennsylvania. He expressed interest in running for the White House in the next election, but did not comment on whether he would consider Vice President Harris as his running mate.
The Governor's criticism of Vice President Harris comes amidst reports of his persistent questioning of her staff about her residence and his lack of discretion in the lead-up to her vice presidential pick announcement.
Kamala Harris had initially considered Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as a potential running mate. However, there were concerns that Shapiro might not be satisfied with a role as number two, potentially affecting their partnership.
Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota, was also considered as a possible vice presidential candidate for Kamala Harris. However, there is no information indicating that he later commented on Joe Biden's cognitive abilities.
Governor Shapiro's comments have sparked a debate about the role of loyalty in politics, with Harris stating that her loyalty to the country outweighed her loyalty to President Biden. She did, however, express concerns about what she is seeing in her party and plans to have her voice heard.
The criticism from Governor Shapiro is a significant development in the political landscape, particularly as speculation about the 2024 presidential race begins to intensify. Both Governor Shapiro and Vice President Harris have not ruled out launching another presidential run in 2028.
