Haredi demonstrators obstruct entry to Jerusalem's railway station, train sustains damage
In the heart of Jerusalem, and in several other locations across the country, demonstrations have been taking place over the past few days. These protests, organized by the 'Jerusalem Faction' sect, are a response to the arrest of haredi fugitive Eliyahu Nahum, which has been described by yeshiva leaders as "criminal" and "a sin against Torah study."
The high-ranking leader of the Jerusalem Faction sect involved in these protests is Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach. The demonstrations have been taking place at five locations: the entrance to Jerusalem, Bnei Brak, Modi'in Illit, Beit Shemesh, Safed, and surrounding areas.
However, the protests at the Givat Shaul junction in Jerusalem have been particularly disruptive, with protesters affiliated with the Jerusalem Faction blocking the entrance to the city. As a result, entry to and exit from Jerusalem via this junction is currently blocked for vehicle traffic.
The Israel Police have stated that these demonstrations are endangering road users and consider them as illegal activity. They have emphasized that they will not permit disruption of public order, road blockages, or any illegal activity that endangers public safety or the daily routine of road users.
In an effort to restore order, authorities are redirecting vehicles to alternate routes. The police have also made it clear that they will allow individuals to exercise freedom of expression within the framework of lawful protest.
Despite repeated orders from the police for the rioters to move to the sidewalk, they have not complied. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of all road users.
As the situation continues to unfold, it is hoped that a peaceful resolution can be found, allowing for the restoration of normal traffic flow and the resumption of daily life in these affected areas.
