Shake-Up at Fair Harbor
Harbor Fair appoints Mizzen+Main's former president as their new leader
Kick back and hear about the latest happenings at DTC clothing brand, Fair Harbor!
This month, the company announced the appointment of Bethany Muths as their new president - a position especially created for this exceptional talent. Muths, most recently the Chief Marketing and Customer Officer at Mizzen+Main, brings a wealth of experience to the table, having previously served as Chief Brand Officer at Ivory Ella and as the Head of Brand North America for shoe-lovers' haven, Schutz.
This shake-up arrives shortly after Fair Harbor closed its brick-and-mortar store located in the heart of New York City's SoHo neighborhood, which had been in action since 2022 and shuttered its doors in January of this year.
Sustainable Swell
Fair Harbor has been gravitating towards bringing in industry veterans to steer its vision. Alongside Muths, the brand rigorously recruited three powerhouse retail execs to join its Board of Directors last fall. These retail mavens include Tracy Gardner (former J. Crew president), Silvia Mazzucchelli (veteran of ModCloth, American Apparel, and Guess, among others), and Jennifer Olsen (a trailblazer at Caleres, UnTuckit, and Crate and Barrel). As predicted, this formidable quartet is working in tandem to accelerate Fair Harbor's omnichannel growth. At present, this growth includes DTC sales and wholesale partnerships with premium retailers like Nordstrom and Amazon. Fair Harbor has an impressive presence in over 500 retail outlets, as per the company's records.
Fair Harbor takes great pride in its eco-friendly ethos, and it shows in their product line. More than 35 million plastic bottles have been rescued from waterways thanks to Fair Harbor's use of repurposed plastic bottles and sustainable materials like organic cotton, recycled nylon, Tencel, and Seawool. In fact, Fair Harbor's denim proudly boasts traces of 12 repurposed plastic bottles and organic cotton!
Fair Harbor added some green to its coffers last March when they secured funding from Broad Sky Partners. This investment was aimed at expanding the brand's offerings, broadening distribution channels, and bolstering their sustainability initiatives. Ever since, Fair Harbor has welcomed three rounds of funding totaling approximately $30.8 million - according to CrunchBase.
The Green Queen Joins the Ranks
Muths expressed her excitement about joining Fair Harbor's team, especially since the brand's environmental values resonate deeply with her personal convictions. "I can't wait to contribute to Fair Harbor's inspiring mission of creating comfortable, high-quality, sustainable products," she shared on LinkedIn.
This announcement marks a trend in the industry, with multiple brands assigning prominent positions to newly appointed executives. Recent examples include Deckers Corporation promoting Marco Ellerker to the Presidency of Global Marketplace, Columbia naming Tricia Shumavon as President of their prAna brand, and Stephen Brinkley becoming President of Operations at Ross.
