Little Fridolin's Escape: A Miracle at Gut Aiderbichl

Two weeks ago, a heartwarming rescue mission took place at Gut Aiderbichl, a sanctuary in Iffeldorf near Munich. Little Fridolin, a calf, managed to fall into a slurry pit on the farm of Christian Duschl (44). The wooden cover of the pit shifted, trapping the young animal up to its head in the slimy substance.
"We went out with ten firefighters to save Fridolin," reports commander Michael Wiesenbauer (30). A team from the mountain rescue service was called in for advice. Rescuers clad in heavy breathing protection ventured into the stinky pit, equipped with a rescue harness for Fridolin and a suction truck. Fifteen cubic meters of slurry needed to be pumped out, while a fan was used to ward off the toxic fumes.
Long-time friend and neighbor Christian Duschl joined forces with numerous helpers to help save the young bull.

A few days later, farmers Duschl couldn't believe his luck. Fridolin, nicknamed "little Fridolin," was rescued and recovering well. This farm doesn't have the resources to care for a sick or injured animal past its recovery, so Christian reluctantly decided to pass the young bull onto better hands at Gut Aiderbichl.
Many people, including readers from the Bild daily news, were moved by Fridolin's story and expressed their support. Gut Aiderbichl, founded by Erich and Marianne Hämmerle, is a sanctuary that focuses on caring for animals rescued from emergency situations, as well as wounded animals rescued from war and crisis zones.
Gut Aiderbichl spokesperson Susanne Arnezeder shared her thoughts, saying, “We will probably be able to accommodate Fridolin at Gut Aiderbichl. We still need to clarify certain details beforehand, as we need a health certificate for the calf."
