Changes to Waste Disposal in Hannover and the Region - Hanover’s waste collection halts as snowstorm leaves rubbish uncollected

Heavy snowfall has caused major disruptions to waste collection across Hanover and nearby areas. Services were halted as crews struggled to navigate snow-covered roads, leaving many residents with uncollected rubbish.

The storm forced waste collection crews to pause operations entirely. As a result, missed pickups will not be rescheduled, according to council spokeswoman Helene Herich. Residents have been advised to hold onto their waste until the next planned collection day.

To help manage the backlog, crews will accept larger volumes of rubbish at no extra cost during the next round of pickups. Meanwhile, recycling centres in Lahe, Burgdorf, and Kolenfeld will reopen on Monday for drop-offs.

The council has urged residents to check their collection schedules and leave waste out on the next assigned day. Extra capacity will be available for those with excess rubbish, but no make-up services will be provided for missed pickups.
