Gear up, Hannover 96 fans! The club's latest addition, Jonas Sterner, has joined the ranks for the upcoming season, signing a three-year contract with the Lower Saxony side. This will keep the 23-year-old right-back on board until June 2028, following his transfer from Holstein Kiel.
Sterner’s journey to Hannover is the end of a productive loan spell at Dynamo Dresden, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s rise to the second division.
The young defensive talent hails from Husum and was first put through his paces in Holstein Kiel's youth teams as early as the U13 level. Sterner made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga at 18 in June 2020. Last season, he impressed with his attacking prowess, notching up eight goals and two assists in 32 league games.
Hannover 96 sees a bright future for Sterner:
"With consistent solid performances under his belt in Dresden's ambitious team last season, Jonas truly shone. Despite only garnering ten scoring points, he was one of the top outside backs in the 3rd league," said Hannover's managing director, Marcus Mann. "We believe he's already ready for the 2nd league, but he still has plenty of room to grow."
The transfer fee, although kept under wraps, is reported to be slightly less than €400,000, according to recent reports. Interestingly, other clubs such as Hertha BSC and 1. FC Köln were eyeing Sterner as well, highlighting his potential.
