Traffic travelers en route to Lower Saxony should anticipate delays around Hamburg over the weekend. The Elbtunnel will be shut for southbound traffic, and there's an impediment on the route towards the Baltic Sea.

Hanover-bound traffic through the Elb Tunnel will be halted until Monday.

Heads Up, Motorists! Time for a Major Detour Around Hamburg

Get ready for some traffic jams, fellow drivers! It's a weekend of relays and reroutes in Hamburg. The A7 highway will shut down southbound and the Elbtunnel will close too. Good luck navigating the obstacles on your way to Lower Saxony or the Baltic Sea!

Why the chaos, you ask? The construction work on the A7 is the culprit. On Friday evening at 10:00 PM, Autobahn GmbH Nord will shut down the A7 between Hamburg-Stellingen and Hamburg-Heimfeld until Monday morning around 5:00 AM. The roadway in the affected section will undergo some serious TLC, with a complete overhaul planned for the stretch during the closure.

If you're thinking about making a beeline for Hamburg Airport from the south, we suggest considering public transport like the S-Bahn line S1 or numerous bus lines, as the airport might be hit by the closure.

Regional traffic will be forced onto alternative routes. From Neumünster-Süd, motorists will be redirected via the B205, the A21, and from the Bargteheide junction via the A1. Locally, you can use the Neue Elbbrücken as an alternative, but beware: it gets crowded, especially on the A1 before the partially closed Norderelbbrücke.

It's safe to say that the city's traffic situation won't be a breeze this weekend. A spokesperson for the Autobahn GmbH warned, "We expect a tense traffic situation throughout the city."

The Köhlbrandbrücke will also be fully closed this weekend. Another full closure on the A1 between Ahrensburg and the Bargteheide junction will affect the direction towards Lübeck, but only from Friday to Sunday evening.

Alright, so what does all this mean for you? Brace yourself for significant delays and be prepared to think outside the box. Check road conditions before you hit the road, explore alternative routes, and leave plenty of extra time to get where you're going!

Note: Keep in mind that the closure mentioned in the search results has slightly different dates (from June 13 to June 16). Plan your journey accordingly.

In case you're wondering, the closures are part of an eight-lane expansion project of the A7 and the connection of the A26 to the A7, which includes noise protection improvements. Traffic works are in full swing across Germany this season, which may cause unexpected delays. Main congestion hotspots during the diversion will likely be the A1, A21, B205, and the general vicinity of Hamburg.

Stay safe, stay patient, and bonne route! 🙌

Due to extensive political decisions, more specifically the expansion project of the A7 and the connection of the A26 to the A7, motorists should expect general news regarding traffic congestions in Hamburg this weekend. In light of this, it is advised to prepare for significant delays and think outside the box while navigating the city's traffic situation.
