Bishops Don't Just Preach, They Rule: Petra Bahr's Promotion to State Secretary

Hanover Bishop assumes role of State Secretary in the government - Hanover Bishop advances to State Secretary position

Here's the lowdown on Petra Bahr, the former Regional Bishop from good ol' Hannover, swooping in to become the State Secretary in Berlin's Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Seniors, Women, and Youth. You got it right; she's taking over under Minister Karin Prien (CDU). The heads-up came straight from the Evangelical Church of Hannover. At 59, Petra Bahr's more than ready to shake things up, having spent four years as the Regional Bishop and two years on the German Ethics Council since 2020.

Bishop Ralf Meister, none too shy, touted his colleague's distinctive approach to running the Regional Bishop's office. He emphasized her knack for bridging gaps between church, politics, science, and culture while setting vital initiatives. Meister added that she's as sharp as a tack, never lacking in wisdom or insight.

Before her dabble with Scripture, Petra Bahr carved out a nice niche heading up the politics department at the CDU-affiliated Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. and proudly represented the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany as their cultural ambassador. In 2002, she bulldozed her way to a doctorate from the University of Basel with a dissertation on Immanuel Kant's "Critique of Judgment." From 2000 to 2006, she sprinkled her philosophy and ethics lessons at the University of Frankfurt am Main.
