Hanoi Police secure a draw in their opening match of the AFC Champions League 2 competition
In a closely contested match, Vietnamese powerhouse Ha Noi Police and Chinese powerhouse Beijing Guoan ended in a 2-2 draw in the AFC Champions League 2 on September 18, in Beijing, China.
Ha Noi Police, currently leading the V.League 1, almost secured their first win in the competition but missed several gilt-edged chances. Vitao scored for Ha Noi Police in the 15th minute, but Chi Zhongguo equalized for Beijing Guoan just after halftime. Zhang Yuan then gave Beijing Guoan the lead on 65 minutes, only for Rogerio Alves to equalize eight minutes later for Ha Noi Police.
Quique Setién, coach of Ha Noi Police, expressed that his team deserved three points but missed the opportunity. He described the style of Việt Nam's team as a blend of their own and Brazilian. Setién had predicted the opposition's playing style and prepared solutions for it. Ha Noi Police moved well in wide areas and put a lot of pressure on their opponents, as per Setién.
Coach Mano Polking of Beijing Guoan was satisfied with his team's performance, despite the draw. He believed his side showed endurance, good tactics, and managed the game well. Polking also expressed that his team deserved a win, having created several chances throughout the match.
In their next fixtures, Ha Noi Police will host Hong Kong's Tai Po FC at home on October 2, while Beijing Guoan will travel to New South Wales to face Macarthur of Australia.
Meanwhile, Tai Po FC opened with a 2-1 victory over 10-man Macarthur FC at Mong Kok Stadium. The coach of Tai Po FC, Lee Chi Kin, will face Ha Noi Police at home in the AFC Champions League 2 on October 2.
