After a short stint of half a year, Hannover 96 bid farewell to Kenneth Schmidt, with the central defender joining Fortuna Düsseldorf permanently. The 23-year-old's loan from SC Freiburg has officially come to an end, and he's now ready to make his mark with Düsseldorf.

Schmidt joined the North German club in January but primarily played for their third-tier squad. Freiburg leveraged the option to terminate the initial 18-month loan agreement early, and Düsseldorf was quick to snatch up the opportunity. Klaus Allofs, Fortuna's managing director, expressed his excitement about Schmidt's potential and the chance to develop him alongside the team.
While Schmidt's loan agreement with Hannover 96 would have lasted until 2026, the club didn't have long-term plans for him, leading to the early termination. Additionally, Schmidt's left knee inner ligament injury hampered his opportunities for playing time with Hannover's reserve team in the 3. Liga[1]. The decision to join Fortuna Düsseldorf was also influenced by promising discussions with the club's officials and Schmidt's ambition to contribute to the team's success. The move came at a modest fee of €400,000, illustrating Düsseldorf's commitment to investing in promising young players such as Schmidt[2].
