Hanau's Paper Theater Museum Reopens with New Look and Free Anniversary Celebration
Hanau's Paper Theater Museum has reopened after a major renovation, offering a fresh look and a packed programme for visitors. The museum, located in the historic Philippsruhe Castle, will celebrate its seventh anniversary with free admission on April 12 alongside special performances and workshops.
The museum first welcomed guests again in late January following its redesign. Its extensive programme now includes guided tours, creative workshops, and live paper theater shows for all ages.
Guided tours of the Paper Theater Museum will take place on March 28 and April 25 at 3 PM, each costing €3 per person in addition to museum entry. Workshops like *Lights Up… Build Your Own Portable Paper Theater* and *Glamour and Glitter: Tinseling in Paper Theater* cater to different age groups, with prices starting at €90 for daycare or school groups and €150 for private children's birthday parties, covering admission and materials. The Blue Hall will host paper theater performances starting April 12. The first show, *Death and the Devil* by Berlin's *Papiertheater an der Oppermann*, begins at 2 PM and is suitable for ages 10 and older. On Mother's Day, May 10, *Snow White*—performed by *Papiertheater am Ring* from Wilhermsdorf—will run at 12:30 PM, 2 PM, and 3 PM, recommended for children aged 5 and up. Tickets for *Snow White* cost €3 for children and €10 for adults, including castle admission, with advance booking required via email or online form. The tradition of paper theater in Germany dates back to the 19th century, when chromolithography printing made intricate cardboard stages and figures widely accessible. Once a popular form of home entertainment, it has since evolved into a nostalgic art form, preserved today through museum exhibitions, workshops, and live performances. To mark the seventh anniversary of GrimmWorld Hanau, the Historical Museum Hanau at Philippsruhe Castle will offer free entry from 2 PM on April 12.
The Paper Theater Museum's reopening brings a mix of history and hands-on activities to Hanau. With free admission on April 12, guided tours, workshops, and performances, the museum provides entertainment and education for visitors of all ages. Advance booking is advised for shows and certain events.
