Hanau's 'Active Bridge Days' return in 2026 with sports and childcare for kids
Hanau's 'Active Bridge Days' will return in 2026 after a one-year break. The program offers childcare and sports activities for children aged six to twelve on school-free bridge days. Local officials and clubs have come together to support the initiative with funding, meals, and resources. The event will run on two Fridays: May 15 and June 5. Both days will take place at the Main-Kinzig-Halle, where children can try sports like inline hockey, handball, tennis, and basketball. Other activities include field hockey, gymnastics, parkour, and more, led by Hanau's sports clubs.
City Councilor Isabelle Hemsley emphasised the program's focus on movement, community, and fun. Mayor and Sports Commissioner Dr. Maximilian Bieri also backed the initiative, noting its role in helping families manage work and childcare. The cost per child is €15, covering supervision, sports sessions, a hot lunch, water, and snacks. Financial support comes from the Lions Club, while the Martin Luther Foundation provides meals and Bad Brückenauer ensures water is available. Registration details and further information will be announced soon by the city.
The 'Active Bridge Days' will give children a chance to stay active while parents handle work commitments. With a mix of sports, meals, and supervision, the program aims to fill a gap on school-free days. Organisers expect to share sign-up details in the coming weeks.
