Hamilton finds amusement in stricter regulations in Formula One

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton has criticized a recent rule change implemented by the FIA regarding the flexibility of front wings in Formula 1, describing it as a "waste of money." The changes, which came into effect at the Spanish Grand Prix, have not significantly altered the performance of the cars despite substantial financial investment needed for teams to adapt, according to Hamilton.

During qualifying, McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris dominated as they have been doing all season, leaving the field far behind. Hamilton, who was interviewed in Barcelona, expressed his displeasure with the rule change, stating, "All the wings still bend, just not as much. Everyone had to develop new wings and spend money. It doesn't make sense."

The FIA targeted McLaren's "Flexi-Wings," flexible front wings, a supposed major strength of the team. However, the much-debated rule tightening has had no noticeable effect on the competitive balance; McLaren's superiority persisted despite the new regulations. Ferrari's team principal Fred Vasseur had predicted beforehand that the change might reduce McLaren's dominance, but his assessment appears to have been incorrect.

Currently, Hamilton sits far behind championship leaders Piastri and Norris. He said his team is "left chasing half a second, which is what we'd need." Months of work go into finding even a tenth of a second, indicating the difficulty of making up such a substantial deficit.

McLaren's exceptional performance during the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying suggests that they have not been significantly affected by the recent FIA rule change targeting their "Flexi-Wings." Hamilton expressed frustration over the financial investment needed for teams to adapt to the new regulations without seeing any notable impact on the competitive balance.

The recent FIA rule change targeting McLaren's flexible front wings seems not to have significantly impacted the team's performance in the Formula 1 racing scene, as illustrated by their dominance in the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying. Lewis Hamilton, racing for Ferrari, voiced his displeasure regarding the financial investment needed for teams to adapt to the new regulations without any noticeable improvement in the competitive balance.
