ETV Hamburg, Bottom of the Table, Releases Coach - Hamburg's Volleys finish last but eye a stronger Bundesliga future

Hamburg's ETV Hamburger Volksbank Volleys have finished their first season in Germany's Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) at the bottom of the table. Despite the result, club chairman Frank Fechner remains positive about the team's future in the league.

The ETV struggled throughout their debut campaign, securing only two wins—both against fellow promoted sides Borken and TSV Flacht. However, they did manage to take sets from reigning champions Schwerin and runners-up Dresden, showing glimpses of potential.

The season ended on a turbulent note. Head coach Markus Friedrich was released from his duties a week before the final match against VC Wiesbaden, leaving the team without him on the bench for their last game. Since their founding in 2023, the ETV have used 28 different players in the Bundesliga. Now, with seven departures confirmed, the squad will look very different next season. The club is actively seeking reinforcements to rebuild for the coming year. Despite the challenges, the ETV's long-term goal remains clear: to establish themselves in the league within three years.

The team will enter the next season with a reshaped roster and a new coaching setup. Their ability to compete against top sides suggests room for improvement. The club's focus now shifts to recruitment and stability as they aim to climb the table.
