U1 Closure on the Weekend - Replacement Traffic Arranged - Hamburg's U1 subway shuts down for weekend maintenance and upgrades

Hamburg's U1 subway line will shut down this weekend for essential maintenance. The closure affects the stretch between Ohlsdorf and Kellinghusenstraße stations, starting early Saturday. Commuters and football fans will need to adjust their travel plans as a result.

The disruption begins at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, and continues until the end of service on Sunday, March 15. Engineers will carry out track and technology upgrades during this period. Passengers travelling along this route must use replacement buses instead.

The timing coincides with Hamburger SV's Saturday evening match at Volksparkstadion. Fans heading to the game may face longer journeys, with delays of up to 20 minutes expected. Authorities have advised travellers to plan extra time for their trips.

The maintenance work will keep the U1 line closed for over 24 hours. Buses will cover the affected section, but commuters should prepare for slower travel. The upgrades aim to improve reliability on the network in the long term.
