Hamburg's Temporary Sports Upgrade: New Ice & Velodrome Complex Coming Soon
Hamburg is preparing for a significant sports enhancement. The city plans to construct a new ice and velodrome news complex in Eimsbüttel as part of the Eimsbüttel Sports Park redevelopment project. This temporary news aims to keep local ice sports clubs active while a permanent solution is under construction.
The new complex will include an ice rink with seating for up to 800 spectators and a velodrome. Additionally, a three-court hall for club sports will be built alongside these news facilities. While public recreational skating won't be available here, clubs previously using the Stellingen ice rink will find a temporary home in the mobile ice rink in Eidelstedt during the 2025/26 season. This mobile rink, measuring 56 by 26 meters, is expected to be operational by late November 2025.
The new facilities will be equipped with modern stands, photovoltaic systems, and geothermal technology. The ice rink will be available for clubs affiliated with the Hamburg Ice and Roller Sports Association (HERV) until the end of March 2026. Although the precise construction timeline for the new complex has not yet been finalized, this temporary news ensures that clubs can maintain their training and match schedules during the transition.
Hamburg's temporary mobile ice rink in Eidelstedt will serve as a crucial bridge for local ice sports clubs until the new ice and velodrome news complex in Eimsbüttel is ready. This investment in sports infrastructure ensures that Hamburg's ice sports community can continue to thrive during the redevelopment process.
