Hamburg's Reeperbahn Festival Gets Underway, Brimming with Special Events
The Reeperbahn Festival, Europe's largest club festival and a significant gathering for the music industry, is set to return from September 20 to 23, 2023. Located at the Stage Operettenhaus on Spielbudenplatz, this year's event promises an exciting lineup of performances, discussions, and industry events.
Founded in 2007 by RBX GmbH, the festival is committed to net politics, digital culture, digital society, gender balance, and diversity. Alexander Schulz, CEO of RBX GmbH and founder of the Reeperbahn Festival, anticipates around 49,000 attendees over the four days.
The festival will host over 380 concerts and welcome around 4,000 industry professionals from 35 countries. Among the notable guests will be Federal Culture Minister Claudia Roth, British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks, Cassia, winners of the Anchor Award 2022, and Iniko from New York.
In addition to the music, the Reeperbahn Festival will also feature Republica, Europe's largest digital and society conference. This event will take place at Heiligengeistfeld on September 22 and 23 as part of the festival.
The Music Dialogue Hamburg, a discussion forum for leading representatives of the German music industry, will celebrate its 10th anniversary at this year's Reeperbahn Festival. Moreover, the festival will host the first Sustain! Green Culture Summit, a conference on circularity and sustainability.
Notably, the Reeperbahn Festival is not just a music event; it's also a hub for the digital world. Apple Music and YouTube Music are discussed in separate articles. The Future of the Media Hub Hamburg is also a topic for another discussion. The 7 Trends for the Media and Content Industry in 2023 can also be found in a separate article.
Interestingly, gender balance is a key focus at the festival. Over 50 percent of Republica speakers are female, demonstrating a commitment to equality in the digital and music industries. This emphasis on gender balance is reflective of the values of re:publica GmbH, one of the co-founders of which is Tanja Haeusler. She, along with her husband Johnny Haeusler and colleagues Andreas and Markus, founded re:publica in 2006.
One of the highlights of this year's festival is the Scoop Award 2023 in the field of data journalism, which will be presented to Christina Elmer. This award recognises her significant contributions to the field and underscores the festival's commitment to promoting excellence in journalism.
In conclusion, the Reeperbahn Festival 2023 promises to be an exciting event, bringing together music, culture, and digital society. Whether you're an industry professional, a music lover, or a digital enthusiast, there's something for everyone at this year's festival.
