Warning Strike: Likely No Bus or Subway Traffic in Hamburg - Hamburg's public transport grinds to a halt in 24-hour warning strike

Public transport in Hamburg and surrounding districts will face major disruptions on Monday due to warning strikes. The industrial action, called by the ver.di union, will halt underground trains and many bus services for 24 hours. Only some routes and transport types will remain unaffected by the walkout.

The strike will begin at 3:00 a.m. on February 2, 2026, and last until 3:00 a.m. the following day. It covers the districts of Pinneberg, Segeberg, Stormarn, and Herzogtum Lauenburg, where vhh.mobility buses will stop running. Underground trains and most buses are also expected to stay in depots, leaving commuters without key services.

Regional bus networks, particularly those operated by VHH, will see significant delays and cancellations. However, some transport will continue as normal. The S-Bahn commuter rail, regional trains, Hadag ferries, ABG bus routes, and hvv hop services will not be impacted by the strike.

School bus services, meanwhile, are set to run as planned despite the wider disruptions.

The warning strike will bring much of Hamburg's public transport to a standstill for a full day. Passengers relying on underground trains, city buses, and regional services in the affected districts should prepare for alternative travel arrangements. The strike is scheduled to end early on Tuesday morning, with full operations expected to resume shortly after.
