Over 475,000 people visited the Hamburger Kunsthalle in 2025 - Hamburg’s Kunsthalle breaks records with 475,000 visitors in 2025
Hamburg’s Kunsthalle experienced a robust year in 2025, with visitor numbers reaching over 475,823. The museum also expanded its digital footprint, recording nearly 1.4 million website visits and gaining close to 136,000 followers on Instagram. Now, two major exhibitions are drawing crowds and setting the stage for an even busier 2026.
The current exhibition, Anders Zorn: Sweden’s Superstar, has already attracted nearly 100,000 visitors since its launch. Running until January 25, the show highlights the Swedish painter’s celebrated works.
Last year’s Rendezvous of Dreams: Surrealism and German Romanticism proved another success, drawing 151,557 attendees. The museum’s ability to attract large audiences has continued into 2025. Looking ahead, the Kunsthalle will host Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch: Painting as Life from March 27 to August 30, 2026. The exhibition will explore connections between the two influential artists, though details about its curation remain unavailable.
With rising visitor numbers and high-profile exhibitions, the Kunsthalle remains a key cultural destination. The upcoming 2026 show follows a pattern of well-attended displays, reinforcing the museum’s popularity. Digital engagement has also grown, reflecting broader interest in its programmes.
