Chamber of Commerce Presents Position Paper - Hamburg’s Health Sector Overtakes Port as Economic Powerhouse

The industry already contributes over €15 billion in gross value added each year. It employs nearly 190,000 people, making up 10% of Hamburg’s total economic output. These figures come from a joint position paper, Gesundheitsstandort Hamburg 2040, produced by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Asklepios Kliniken.

The health industry is now recognised as a cornerstone of Hamburg’s future economy. But without urgent reforms, growing demand and staff shortages could strain the system further. The report’s recommendations aim to streamline operations and secure the industry’s long-term role as an economic driver.
