HSV Pro Jean-Luc Dompé must provide 10,000 reflective vests - Hamburger SV's Dompé sentenced to distribute 10,000 safety vests after drunk driving
Hamburger SV forward Jean-Luc Dompé has been convicted of drunk driving and ordered to perform community service. His punishment includes distributing 10,000 high-visibility vests to schools and daycare centres in Hamburg. The case has drawn attention as no other public figures in Germany have faced similar penalties in recent years.
The incident began when Dompé was caught driving under the influence. A court in Mainz sentenced him in February 2025 to 30 hours of community work. Shortly after leaving the police station, he was charged again—this time for riding an e-scooter while intoxicated.
His club, Hamburger SV, responded swiftly. Dompé received a record internal fine and a two-match suspension. Despite the setback, he returned to the pitch and scored a penalty in HSV's 2-1 win over Wolfsburg.
The 10,000 safety vests, part of his court-ordered punishment, will go to educational institutions across Hamburg and nearby regions. The aim is to improve road safety awareness among children and staff.
Dompé's case remains unique among German public figures over the past two years. His sentence combines community service with a practical road safety initiative. The vests will be rolled out to schools and daycare centres in the coming months.
