Harbingers of Spring in Hamburg - Hamburg welcomes early spring with blooms and record warmth

Hamburg is seeing the first signs of spring with crocuses and snowdrops now in bloom. The city's weather is set to stay mild, though rain is on the way over the weekend. Pollen levels, however, will remain low for the time being.

Temperatures in Hamburg have been rising steadily in recent years. Between 2021 and 2025, winter averages (December to February) sat 1.2–1.8°C above the long-term norm of around 2.5°C. The warmest year in this period was 2024, with a deviation of +2.1°C, while 2021 marked the mildest winter since records began in 1876.

This week, the trend continues with daytime highs staying above freezing. By Friday, thermometers could hit 16°C, offering a taste of early spring. But a change is coming—rain is forecast to sweep in from the North Sea over the weekend.

Despite the warmer weather, pollen counts are expected to stay low. This should bring relief to allergy sufferers as the city's flowers begin to appear.

The coming days will bring unseasonably warm conditions, peaking at 16°C on Friday. Rain arriving from the North Sea will then dominate the weekend forecast. For now, low pollen levels mean fewer issues for those with hay fever.
