Towers' Boss: 'Hold Players and Coaches Accountable' - Hamburg Towers hit rock bottom with 16 straight losses this season

The Veolia Hamburg Towers are facing a deep sporting crisis after losing all 16 competitive matches this season. The team remains winless in both the BBL and EuroCup, sitting at the bottom of the standings. Managing director Marvin Willoughby has now spoken about the struggles and the steps being taken to turn things around.

The club’s poor run includes 16 straight defeats, with no victories in the BBL (0-7) or EuroCup (0-8). A first-round cup exit added to the disappointment. Willoughby admitted that multiple issues—particularly defensive weaknesses and a lack of physicality—have contributed to the slump.

Two new players, Martin Breunig and Devon Daniels, were brought in during the winter break to strengthen the squad. However, Willoughby made it clear that new signings alone won’t fix the problems. He stressed that the entire team must take responsibility for improving performances.

Despite the crisis, the club has reaffirmed its support for head coach Benka Barloschky. The focus now is on climbing out of last place, with crucial matches against Vechta, Heidelberg, and Oldenburg coming up after the international break.

The Towers are pushing for a fresh start when play resumes. The upcoming fixtures will be key in determining whether the team can finally break its losing streak. For now, the club remains winless in all competitions this season.
