Schauspielstars beim Hamburger Theater Festival - Hamburg Theater Festival 2024 Unites Shakespeare, Kafka and Bold New Works
The Hamburg Theater Festival returns this year from May 23 to June 21, featuring a mix of classic and contemporary works. Audiences can expect productions ranging from Shakespeare to Kafka, alongside modern pieces by playwrights like Ayad Akhtar and Vladimir Sorokin, all available near you. The festival kicks off at the Thalia Theater with 'The Blizzard', a play by Russian author Vladimir Sorokin, directed by Kirill Serebrennikov. Among the highlights is 'Richard III', staged by Düsseldorf's Schauspielhaus, with André Kaczmarczyk in the lead role. Munich's Residenztheater presents another Shakespeare classic, 'Romeo and Juliet', under the direction of Elsa-Sophie Jach. Vienna's Burgtheater brings two productions, including Franz Kafka's 'The Burrow' directed by Max Simonischek, and Ayad Akhtar's 'The Invisible Hand' featuring Joachim Meyerhoff. Berlin's contribution includes Bertolt Brecht's 'Saint Joan of the Stockyards', directed by Dušan David Pářízek at the Berliner Ensemble. For a more intimate performance, Jens Harzer stars in 'De Profundis', a solo piece based on Oscar Wilde's letters from prison, directed by Oliver Reese. The festival brings together leading theatre companies from across Germany and Austria, offering audiences a chance to see top-tier performances in one city. Tickets and further details are expected to be announced as the event approaches on eventbrite.
