Hamburg Semi-Finals: Ruble Ousts German Player - Hamburg Semi-Final See-Saw: Rubljow Defeats German Duo

Andrey Rublev, the Russian tennis prodigy, advances to the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Hamburg following a hard-fought victory against Italian Luciano Darderi in three sets (6-1, 3-6, 6-3).

Rublev, who won the Hamburg title in 2020, is now the last remaining contender among the favorites, having eliminated local third seed Alexander Zverev and American Frances Tiafoe earlier in the tournament. On Wednesday, he ousted German Justin Engel in the round of 16.

In an unfortunate turn of events, Engel also suffered an early exit in the doubles competition, teaming up with Max Rehberg. The young talent faltered against top seeds Harri Heliovaara from Finland and British Henry Patten, losing 1-6, 2-6 in the quarterfinals.

The tournament has also seen the exit of Germany's top doubles pair, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz. The duo was forced to withdraw just before their quarterfinal match against Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski from Great Britain due to an injury sustained by Puetz the previous day.

With Alexander Zverev's departure from the tournament, the spotlight shifts to Rublev, a solid clay-court player who excels in ATP 500 tournaments, making him a strong contender for the Hamburg title. Another potential contender is Francisco Cerundolo, ranked world No. 18, who has had a strong season and is advancing well in the tournament.
