Hamburg Federal Police Receive Mysterious Balloon Mail from BPOL NRW; Is the "Fifth Season" Some Sort of Connection?

Hamburg Federal Police received an unusual delivery via balloon, but the connection to the "fifth season" remains unclear.

On a sunny September day in 2025, the carnival society Venezia Oberhausen 2025 e.V. organised a large balloon competition for around 50 children during a summer festival. Little did they know that one of the balloons would embark on an unexpected journey.

The festival took place before September 13, and the balloons, attached to colourful greeting cards, soared high into the sky. One such card, painted by a 7-year-old boy named Mattis from Oberhausen, Germany, found its way to the Federal Police Station in Hamburg Central Station.

The greeting card, bearing the stamp of the carnival society, had traveled over 300 km in the air, making it an unusual piece of mail for the Federal Police. They were pleased with the discovery, expressing their delight and wishing all children much joy at the upcoming carnival events.

Rüdiger Carstens, the Press Spokesman for the Federal Police Inspection Hamburg, shared the news. He can be reached at 0172 / 4052 741 or via email at [email protected]. The Federal Police Press Office in Hamburg can also be contacted at this number: +49 (0) 175 4338127, or via email at [email protected]. For general inquiries about the Federal Police in Hamburg, you can reach out to [email protected].

The carnival society awards prizes for greeting cards found by third parties and sent back to them. The farthest distances receive the best prizes, making this discovery even more special. The society, a newly founded association in Oberhausen, is led by Mr. Hans-Gerd Staude as its 1st chairman.

The Federal Police Directorate, located in Sankt Augustin, has also expressed its support for the carnival society's initiatives. Further information about the Federal Police can be obtained at www.bundespolizei.de or through the above-mentioned contact addresses. The Federal Police Inspection Hamburg is located at Wilsonstraße 49-53b.

As the balloon mail saga unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the joy and excitement that small gestures can bring. The carnival society and the Federal Police are looking forward to more such heartwarming moments in the future.
