On the right side of the image, there are bags and other objects placed on the ground, and on the left side there is a board with some text on it. In the background, there is fencing, poles, street lights, electric poles with wires, trees, buildings, hills and the sky, suggesting that the children are participating in a program to help children with disabilities.

Hamburger Autism Project in Rugby Honored - Hamburg Autism Association Wins €15,000 for Rugby Programme

The Hamburg Autism Association has won this year’s Werner Otto Prize for its rugby programme in disability sports. The award recognises the group’s work with children with autism and includes €15,000 in prize money. A ceremony at City Hall marked the official handover of the funds.

The prize money will help maintain the current training group and fund a second one for children with autism. Three other organisations—Brücken für Kinder, SV Eidelstedt, and SC Poppenbüttel—each received €5,000.

The Alexander Otto Sports Foundation presented the award. Interior and Sports Senator Andy Grote (SPD) attended the event alongside Paralympic champions Edina Müller and Dorothee Vieth, who served on the jury.

The €15,000 prize will support the expansion of the rugby programme for children with autism. The Hamburg Autism Association now has the resources to grow its autism sports initiative. The award also highlights the work of smaller local autism groups through additional funding.
