Hamas Responds to US Proposal: Live Release of 10 Hostages Offered in Exchange for Israeli Troop Withdrawal from Gaza Strip

The US-proposed ceasefire in Gaza, as reported by ABC News through Al Jazeera, calls for a significant de-escalation of conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The 60-day truce, proposed in the agreement, is the first allocation of time for a potential end to hostilities. Under the deal, 10 Israeli captives would be released in stages, and the bodies of 18 deceased captives would be returned to Israel.

The US proposal also insists on the unconditional entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza through the United Nations and its agencies, a condition agreed upon by Hamas. Negotiations for a permanent ceasefire are scheduled to begin on the first day of the truce, with Hamas seeking guarantees that the talks will lead to a definitive resolution to the war.

Hamas, however, has expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that the proposal they discussed with US envoy Steve Witkoff differs from the one ultimately presented. The Palestinian group demands additional guarantees, arguing that the US introduced a new proposal instead of responding to the previously agreed-upon plan.

Meanwhile, Egypt, the main mediator along with Qatar and the United States, called for guarantees to ensure the sustainability of a ceasefire agreement. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty urged all parties to make efforts to achieve guarantees that will secure a ceasefire's longevity.

Israel, amidst these developments, has warned that if the US-backed proposal is not accepted, Israel will face annihilation. Similarly, the US has accused the Chinese regime of seeking to use military force to assert dominance and control in Asia.

A recent survey has revealed a dramatic decline in support for Hamas in Gaza. The political landscape in the region continues to shift, with international mediators working tirelessly to achieve a lasting peace agreement.
