In the heart of the night, Israeli military forces unleashed a massive bombardment on Gaza City as troops pushed deeper into the territory's largest urban hub. This escalation marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict, following Israel's long-anticipated ground offensive on September 16.

Israeli tanks are making progress in two key Gaza City areas, serving as gateways to the city centre. The Israeli military chief, General Eyal Zamir, leading the operation in Gaza City, announced the intensification of the ground operation and the advancement into new areas of the city.

Israeli forces have expanded their ground activity into Hamas's main stronghold in Gaza, Gaza City. The military controls several areas of the city, including its eastern suburbs, where they have been pounding the Sheikh Radwan and Tel Al-Hawa areas.

The Israeli military has reported the killing of Sim Mahmoud Yusuf Abu Alkhir, Deputy Head of Military Intelligence in Hamas' Bureij Battalion, during an airstrike in northern Gaza. This strike resulted in the deaths of more than 10 militants and the dismantling of over 20 military infrastructure sites.

The events described have occurred amidst a telecoms blackout, a sign that ground operations are likely to further escalate imminently. Internet and phone lines were cut off across the Gaza Strip, indicating a potential for increased military activity.

It is confirmed that Israeli troops have moved deeper into central Gaza City, with the military official stating that forces are moving towards the centre of the city. Israeli forces are positioned to advance on central and western areas where most of the population is sheltering.

Reports suggest that there are an estimated 2,000-3,000 Hamas militants operating in the area. The United Nations has charged Israel with committing "genocide" in the Palestinian territory and accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top officials of incitement.

This escalation in Gaza City comes shortly after visiting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio backed Israel's goal of eradicating Hamas in Gaza. The ground operations in Gaza City are escalating, with Israeli forces in Khan Yunis and Rafah also engaged in targeting ongoing "terror threats."

The situation in Gaza City remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation as the conflict continues.
