Gaza: Nephews of Hamas Leader Killed in Israeli Airstrike

In a tragic turn of events, Ayman and Muad al-Hayya, nephews of Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader in Gaza, were killed by an Israeli airstrike in the Shejaiya neighborhood. The incident occurred while they were returning home after collecting firewood.

Khalil al-Hayya, who also serves as a negotiator for Hamas, has been involved in ceasefire talks and had left Gaza ahead of the October 7, 2023 attacks. The al-Hayya family has been severely affected by the conflict, with Ayman and Muad's uncle Ashraf being killed in a 2003 Israeli airstrike in Shejaiya, and another brother sustaining multiple injuries in similar attacks.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and COGAT, in coordination with multiple countries including the UAE, Jordan, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, and Italy, are conducting a series of actions aimed at improving humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip. Over 106 aid packages containing food for Gaza residents have been airdropped by six different countries, including Greece and Italy, in the past few hours. This marks the first time Greece and Italy have participated in airdrop operations in the Gaza Strip since the operation began.

Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya stated that the current battle is intended to awaken the world, not to improve Gaza conditions. Despite demonstrating flexibility, Hamas maintains its refusal to disarm.

In a related development, Turkish Foreign Minister held a call with a Hamas official. The details of the conversation remain undisclosed.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the devastating impact it has on the lives of its people, including those closely connected to the leadership of Hamas.
