Hold onto your seats, folks! Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently in the thick of things, locked in negotiations with the radical Islamic militant group, Hamas. The latest soundbite comes directly from the US President Trump's online platform, Truth Social – the Prime Minister is reportedly working to release all remaining Israeli hostages, as per Trump's announcement.

While the talks are underway, Trump is expressing frustrations with the Israeli justice system. The fuss stems from Netanyahu's five-year-old corruption trial, in which he's been charged with fraud, breach of trust, and bribery. With the trial still ongoing, it seems that the cross-examination is set to resume soon.

Trump labels the trial a "political witch-hunt," calling it reminiscent of his own tribulations. He suggests that this unwarranted "justice farce" will not only harm the negotiations with Iran, but also with Hamas. Trump has already shown his ardent support for Netanyahu, dubbing him a "war hero" and praising his accomplishments in eliminating the nuclear threat from Iran.

The Heart of Tel Aviv: Protests for the Hostages

Trump previously predicted a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to materialize "within the next week." However, with no significant changes in the positions of both parties on key issues like the end of the war in Gaza and Hamas's guarantees, hopes may be waning.

Thousands of Tel Aviv citizens continue to demonstrate for the release of hostages in Gaza. On Saturday evening, the crowd gathered at the so-called Hostage Square, waving Israeli flags and displaying photos of the hostages. This marked the first demonstration by the Hostage Families Forum after the war against Iran. The weekly protests had to be cancelled during the twelve-day war due to a ban on assembly.

The conflict that erupted as a result of Hamas's large-scale attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 resulted in the death of over 1210 people, and 251 individuals being taken hostage to Gaza. As of now, 49 hostages remain captive by the Islamists, with at least 27 confirmed dead by the Israeli army.

The mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the US for a ceasefire and hostage release have yet to bear fruit.
