Hamas agrees with the majority of the US proposal's terms, pending Israeli consent, as stated by Abdelatty.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Dutch counterpart, Caspar Veldkamp, held a conversation focusing on the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and the Netherlands, as well as developments in Gaza.
During the discussion, Veldkamp reaffirmed the close cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors. Abdelatty, however, expressed concerns over the security of Egypt's diplomatic mission in the Netherlands following a recent attack on its embassy building in The Hague.
Veldkamp expressed regret over the embassy incident and described it as an isolated case. He assured that Dutch authorities would reinforce security measures in line with international obligations to prevent any recurrence of the attack. Abdelatty also emphasized Egypt's host country's responsibility under international law to provide protection for the Egyptian diplomatic mission.
Abdelatty further discussed the issue of the ceasefire and related matters during the call. He highlighted Egypt's continued efforts to broker a ceasefire that would end hostilities, allow unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, and secure the release of Palestinian detainees. The next step in the negotiation process, according to Abdelatty, depends on approval from the Israeli side.
Abdelatty also mentioned his recent visit to the Rafah crossing with the Palestinian Prime Minister. He stated that Hamas has agreed to most of the provisions in the proposal presented by US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff. The Rafah crossing, according to Abdelatty, operates around the clock on the Egyptian side.
In addition, Abdelatty called on the Netherlands to use its role within the European Union to help end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He praised Egypt's mediating role and support for the Palestinian people, which was also commended by Veldkamp.
It is noteworthy that Caspar Veldkamp recently resigned due to a dispute over possible sanctions against Israel amid the conflict with Hamas. He has not played a direct role in the peace negotiations between Israel and Hamas in the past days.
