Halting of Karel-Gott Museum Construction Project

In a surprising turn of events, the planned Karel Gott Museum project, known as Villa Gott, has been temporarily halted. The news was announced by Ivana Gottová, the legendary singer's widow, on August 13, 2025.

For over six decades, Karel Gott stood on stage, entertaining audiences with his golden voice, earning him the title of the "golden voice of Prague." His long-time residence in Prague-Smichov, where he lived from 1974 until his passing on October 1, 2019, at the age of 80, was intended to be the location for the museum.

Ivana Gottová, in making this decision, emphasized that every project should bring joy above all. She stated, "Every project should bring joy, and if it affects health, it's appropriate to stop." The halt in the museum project was not an easy decision for her, as it was her original idea and dream.

The Villa Gott project, as it was called, was planned to open this year in the Prague district of Smichov. However, due to health and personal reasons, it is currently paused indefinitely without further details on resumption. No new information about the museum project's resumption has been provided.

Meanwhile, a proposal has been initiated by the local district to name a nearby square after Karel Gott, currently under consideration by the naming commission of the Czech capital. This memorial project aims to honor Karel Gott near his former villa, reflecting substantial community and council support as of early August 2025.

It's worth noting that between 2006 and 2009, a museum called "Gottland" was dedicated to Karel Gott's life and work in Jevany near Prague. However, it had to close due to financial reasons.

Despite this setback, Karel Gott's legacy continues to live on through his hits like "Biene Maja," "Lady Carneval," and "Once Around the World." His record sales exceed an estimated 50 million, a testament to his enduring popularity.

As we wait for updates on the Villa Gott project, let us remember the joy and music Karel Gott brought to our lives. His memory and music will continue to inspire generations to come.
