Halloween Chaos in Germany: Fireworks Ignite Hedge, Injuries Reported
Halloween night in southwestern Germany saw a surge in firework-related incidents and mischief, with hundreds of emergency calls flooding police stations. The most severe incident occurred in Schorndorf where unknown individuals set off fireworks that ignited a four-meter-tall thuja hedge, causing €500 of damage. Incidents also included egg-throwing and violent clashes, leaving several individuals injured.
Reutlingen Police Headquarters received approximately 120 calls, fewer than the previous year. However, the number of incidents was unusually high. In Gundelfingen, a teenager suffered minor injuries from a firework explosion. In Stuttgart, a woman was injured while chasing suspected egg-throwers and pushing off the side mirror of their vehicle. A secondary school in Weilheim an der Teck even reported a window blown out due to the excessive use of fireworks.
Police in Stuttgart dealt with around 40 'mischief-related' calls, including egg-throwing and firework attacks. In Lahr, a 37-year-old man bit a police officer’s finger after being detained for causing a disturbance.
The Halloween night incidents highlight the need for stricter enforcement and public awareness regarding the safe use of fireworks. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activities to help maintain peace and safety in their communities.
