In the heart of Germany, the town of Naurod marked a significant milestone on May 2nd, 2025, as they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their city partnership with Fondettes, located in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The celebration, held at the Wiesbaden town hall, was a testament to the deep, heartfelt connection that has developed between the two towns over the past five decades.

Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, in his address, praised Nicole and André Doireau, stating that they have built bridges between people, generations, and countries. He emphasised that city partnerships are strong when people carry them. The couple, who are founding members of the partnership associations of both cities, were honoured at the celebration. In recognition of their invaluable contributions, they were presented with the Gold Citizen Medal.

The French Consul General, Nicolas Bergeret, was also present, signifying the diplomatic value of the city partnership. Philippe Bourlier, representing Fondettes, spoke in place of Mayor Cédric de Oliveira and entered the Golden Book of the city.

The partnership between Naurod and Fondettes, which dates back to 1975, has been a lived city connection, as evidenced by the numerous school exchanges, choir tours, sports encounters, and private hostings. Families from Naurod have privately hosted French guests over 40 times, fostering a sense of camaraderie and unity.

Mende further stated that the partnership is not a formal construct but a grown network of encounters, hospitality, and personal commitment. He commended Nicole and André Doireau for their tireless efforts in nurturing this connection, stating that they carry the partnership in their hearts.

Looking forward, Nicole and André Doireau will receive the Palme d'Excellence of the Fondation du Bénévolat on July 14, 2024, a prestigious award recognising their exceptional volunteer work. The celebration in Naurod was just the latest chapter in a story of friendship and cooperation that spans over half a century.

Despite being about 800 kilometers apart, the towns of Naurod and Fondettes have managed to forge an unbreakable bond. Fondettes, with its rich history dating back to Roman times and including the Château Châtigny, and Naurod, a charming town in the Wiesbaden district, have shown that distance is no barrier to friendship and mutual respect. As the partnership moves into its second half-century, it promises to continue being a living testament to the power of human connections.
