"Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Claims Inactivity as Alleged Advisor to Tinubu"

In a candid interview on Channels Television's Politics Today, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, unleashed a barrage of criticism against the administration. Baba-Ahmed, who resigned from his position in April 2025, pointed fingers at the Tinubu government for its alleged incompetence and lack of ambition to address Nigeria's pressing issues.

Recap: Baba-Ahmed was appointed Special Adviser in September 2023 under Vice President Kashim Shettima's office. However, he stepped down in 2025, stating personal reasons for his departure at the time.

In his latest public statement, Baba-Ahmed declared that the Tinubu administration lacked the drive to tackle the nation's problems, particularly poverty and insecurity in the North. He lamented that these issues had worsened under Tinubu's leadership.

Furthermore, when probed about a proposed meeting with Tinubu, Baba-Ahmed hinted that he avoided the meeting as he would have likely dispensed advice the President may not have relished, such as discouraging him from contesting for another term in 2027.

Tinubu should consider backing a younger, more energetic candidate within his party for the 2027 elections, according to Baba-Ahmed, instead of seeking re-election himself.

However, when asked if he would reconsider taking up the role should the opportunity arise again, Baba-Ahmed maintained that he had no regrets about his association with the President but would turn down the offer if it presented itself once more. He candidly stated that working with the current administration proved to be futile.

Interestingly, Baba-Ahmed's resignation, initially presented as a personal matter, is now shrouded in the context of ideological differences with the administration's direction, specifically concerning regional equity and electoral integrity. His tenure as spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum preceded his appointment as a Special Adviser.
