Hackers unveil strategies on disabling Aeroflot's systems

In the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, several significant events have unfolded over the past few days.

In the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk, at least three people have been killed and ten injured in a Russian attack on a residential area. The Russian army is also making progress in Chassiv Yar, Toretsk, and other towns in the Donetsk Oblast.

On the Ukrainian front, the Ukrainian General Staff reported 172 clashes between its defense forces and Russian invaders along the front line in the past 24 hours. The Ukrainian General Staff also reported 1010 wounded or killed on the Russian side in the same period.

Meanwhile, in the digital realm, a pro-Ukrainian hacker group, Silent Crow, together with Belarusian cyber-activists Cyber Partisans BY, infiltrated Aeroflot’s internal network covertly for over a year. During this time, they compromised more than 7,000 servers, accessed confidential documents, internal memos, flight records, and extracted sensitive customer and operational data. On July 28, 2025, they launched a coordinated cyberattack that destroyed core IT infrastructure, causing a massive IT system failure that grounded over 40 of Aeroflot’s flights, disrupted online check-in services, and led to widespread cancellations—especially at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport.

The driving force behind the largest exchange between Russia and the West since the Cold War was the U.S., as evidenced by the prisoner exchange that occurred last year. However, former US President Donald Trump claimed that nearly 20,000 Russian soldiers have died this month and Russia has lost 112,500 soldiers since the beginning of the year in the conflict in Ukraine.

Elsewhere, Polish security services have arrested a foreign national suspected of spying, accused of working for a foreign intelligence service and endangering the security of Poland and other NATO countries.

In response to remarks made by former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, US President Donald Trump announced the deployment of two nuclear submarines. In the Russian region of Belgorod, two men were killed in a drone strike, which authorities describe as a Ukrainian terrorist attack.

A drone resembling an Iranian Shahed drone, which Russia is currently using in the thousands for its attack on Ukraine, was found on a Lithuanian military training ground. Military observers also reported a large explosion at the Russian oil refinery of Novokuibyshevsk in the Samara region.

In a heavy Russian drone attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, at least eleven people, including a five-month-old infant and two children, were injured.

Lastly, almost 10,000 young Polish men and women are spending their summer holidays "at the army" due to the Russian threat.

The community policy of various countries should address the escalating cyberwarfare tactics, such as the one employed by Silent Crow and Cyber Partisans BY, infiltrating Aeroflot's internal network and executing a debilitating cyberattack.

Employment policies may need to adapt to the increased demand for cybersecurity specialists, given the rising occurrences of digital attacks amidst the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict and the growing reliance on digital infrastructure.
