"Big Empty" after Children's Departure - Gwyneth Paltrow makes her Hollywood comeback in Marty Supreme after six-year hiatus

Gwyneth Paltrow is set to return to the big screen in Marty Supreme, her first film role since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. The actor admitted she had been ‘embarrassingly out of the loop’ with recent cinema, including the work of her new co-star, Timothée Chalamet.

Director Benny Safdie personally offered her the part, marking a significant comeback after years away from acting.

Paltrow’s last on-screen appearance came in 2019 as Pepper Potts in Avengers: Endgame. After that, she stepped back from acting, citing personal reasons. She had previously taken a three-year break following the birth of her daughter, Apple, now 21, and her son, Moses, now 19.

In late 2025, Safdie approached her for Marty Supreme, where she will play Kay Stone, a faded Hollywood starlet attempting a comeback. The role reunites her with the industry after a long absence. Paltrow has spoken openly about struggling with empty nest syndrome once her children left for university.

Her return places her alongside Chalamet, though she confessed to being unfamiliar with his films. Despite this, she accepted the role, eager to re-enter the world of acting after years focused on family and other ventures.

The film will see Paltrow’s first major performance in over six years. Marty Supreme is scheduled for production, with Safdie at the helm and Chalamet as her co-lead. The project signals her formal return to Hollywood after a prolonged break.
