In the heart of Marburg, the Erwin-Piscator-Haus (EPH) played host to an exciting event on September 13, 2025 - the Citybiathlon. Organised by the Department of Sports & Movement of the City of Marburg, the day was filled with the exhilarating blend of cross-country skiing and shooting, attracting a large crowd of enthusiastic participants.

The Biathlon Germany Tour was present, encouraging passersby to give the sport a try. Interested participants used original biathlon rifles equipped with infrared technology for marksmanship practice. Shooting was done without ammunition, using infrared light to target. Instructors from the Biathlon Tour explained the correct techniques for shooting and cross-country skiing.

The main attraction was the 'Cardio Biathlon Duel,' which involved 400 meters of cross-country skiing on so-called Thorax trainers, followed by five shots from 10 meters at 45-millimeter biathlon targets. The display automatically calculated the sum of the rings of the five shots, providing immediate feedback.

Councilwoman Kirsten Dinnebier, a keen supporter of the event, visited the Biathlon Tour at EPH and tested the cross-country trainer. She expressed her satisfaction with the event being brought to Marburg and joked about potentially feeling exertion in her arms the next day. She even had the honour of ringing the obligatory cow bell to cheer on participants, a classic fan item in alpine sports.

The competition was fierce, with many participants vying for the top spot. Miran Saibjanov emerged as the day's best, securing the main prize - participation in the finale of the stage winners of all cities in March 2026 at the Biathlon Ski Hall in Oberhof. Bella Nightingale took home a Marburg voucher worth 20 euros as the day's best, while Berengar Doertelmann and Emmanuel Walter each secured a Marburg voucher worth 10 euros as runners-up.

Organiser Jana Hollerung was pleased with the number of participants: nearly 100 competitors and around 100 trial shooters, making a total of approximately 200 participants. She encouraged everyone to subscribe to the University City of Marburg newsletter to stay updated on important news from the town hall and city life directly to their email.

With the Citybiathlon Marburg 2025 drawing to a close, it was clear that the day was a resounding success. The event not only showcased the thrill of biathlon but also brought the community together in a fun and engaging way. Here's to more such events in the future!
