Gunmen in Vennhausen are commencing their summer regimen
In the heart of Düsseldorf, the city played host to its first shooting festival (Schützenfest) on Sunday, 4th May. This event, steeped in history and tradition, brought together more than 40 shooting clubs in a celebration of community and cultural heritage.
The festival commenced early in the morning, with spectators lining the streets to witness the grand parade. Major Niklas Feldmann led the march, with two battalions of shooters proudly passing by the gathered crowds, including numerous guests of honour and the Majesties.
The Majesties, accompanied by Shooter Chief Herbert Koch, inspected the ranks before taking their places in their carriages. The procession culminated at the church of St. Reinhold on the Gubener Straße, where the festivities continued.
The highlight of the reign of the Majesties was undoubtedly Vennhausen's shooting festival. The crowning of the Shooting King, Markus Güldenmeister, took place on Saturday, as he successfully shot down the king's bird at the shooting range. Queen Melanie Wuester, mother of Regimental King Marcus Fuchs, sat beside her son during the coronation.
The festival also crowned a new Page Queen, Jana Blättermann, and Junior Shooter Queen, Leonie-Sophie Güldenmeister. Page Queen Amelie Broix, Junior Shooter Queen Johanna Wuester, and Regimental King Marcus Fuchs had a fantastic year, their achievements being a testament to their skill and dedication.
The encampment echoed with the music of Etienne Eben and band, Düsseldorf Wohnzimmerband, and Aleks Schmidt, providing a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
Enhanced security measures were put in place for the shooters, leading to minor traffic jams, particularly in bus traffic, and the temporary closure of Vennhauser Allee. Despite this, the festival was a resounding success, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and tradition that has made Düsseldorf's Schützenfest a cherished event for generations.
For those wishing to relive the moments of the festival, the gallery of the procession and parade is available for viewing and ordering.
