Gunman opens fire on NFL staff member in lobby, warning coworkers on upper floors before dialing emergency services
In a shocking incident, a shooting occurred at 345 Park Avenue near 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan on July 28, 2025, shortly before 6:30 p.m. The gunman, identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, entered the building and opened fire, claiming the lives of four people and critically injuring a fifth.
Tamura, wearing body armor and armed with a high-powered M4 rifle, arrived in New York City after a cross-country drive from Las Vegas, passing through Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and New Jersey over the previous days. Upon arrival, he parked a black BMW outside the building and entered the lobby where he immediately opened fire.
Security footage shows Tamura shooting and killing an off-duty NYPD officer working security, as well as several other individuals. After the initial shooting, he took an elevator to the 33rd floor, where he shot and killed another person in the offices of Rudin Management.
The NYPD arrived within four minutes of the first call, but by the time they arrived, Tamura had barricaded himself on the 33rd floor. The suspect was later found deceased by apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The building is home to several major tenants including Blackstone and the National Football League, but investigators have not confirmed any direct connection between these companies and the shooting.
Among the victims was an NFL employee, who was shot in the back. The employee called his colleagues to warn them about the gunman before calling 911. A photo shows people standing near a bullet hole near the shooting scene.
The NYPD Chief of Department, John Chell, joined 'Fox & Friends' to discuss the shooting and remember the victims, which includes one of his officers. The NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, also confirmed that an NFL employee was seriously injured in the attack and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
The victims of the shooting include NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, Wesley LePatner, a married mother of two, Julia Hyman, a real estate firm worker, and security guard Aland Etienne.
The NYPD continues to investigate the motives behind the attack, with preliminary information suggesting no clear reason yet for why the suspect targeted this particular location. The shooting has left the city in mourning and the community is rallying together to support the victims and their families.
